On December 17, 2013, the DFEH and the City of San Diego entered into a settlement agreement that resolves allegations that the City failed to provide adequate sexual harassment training to its supervisory employees, as required by state law.

The DFEH filed the complaint after former Mayor Bob Filner – who pleaded guilty to three criminal charges related to sexual harassment – attempted to defend himself by claiming that the City had never provided the required sexual harassment training.

The settlement agreement requires the City to provide at least two hours of online sexual harassment prevention training to all supervisory employees, including all elected and appointed officials, within six months of their hire, election or appointment date, and every two years thereafter.  For the next five years, San Diego must report to the DFEH every six months regarding the City’s compliance with this requirement.
